Colorado Springs to Farmington NM (Four Corners Regl). Hot high and dentity altitude! DA over 8000' (AAE 5500' temp 29) Stopped for lunch and took on only 14 gallons to keep weight low. Very shallow climbout! Very warm!
Lovelock NV to Alturas CA. More hot and high Alturas also DA 6600. Another goaround for alturas as we were too high but we did not take on fuel at this stop just a rest and strech chatty people :-). Smoke and haze from utah all the way here. Lovelock vis 10-15 miles in smoke and haze. watching the restricted areas on the way to lovelock (talked to Range Control) and skirted the edge of their zone. MOA cold but RA hot.
Page AZ to Delta UT. More hot and high. DA reported at Delta 6700'. Over rotated on landing and scraped the tail tiedown lightly twice. Go around and made a much better landing second time. Not much there. Long runway and flat terrain. Full fuel and flat climbout with patience after....
Klamath Falls OR to Portland (Hillsboro) OR. My last leg. Still hazy but not nearly as bad. Close to Crater lake but stayed clear of TFR. Dirk got pictures. Nice to be back to green from the hot and high desert!
To Victoria but divert south of Mt. Constitution die to low cloud over the strait obscuring reference to the ground. VFR at all times. Left downwind 09
Couple of circuits then off to Sumas practise area for slow flight and a couple of forced approaches then to chilliwack to wait for dark. Landed a few minutes after dark anway. used handheld radio for the whole flight. On helicopter headset but audio sounded quite poor on the ground
To Powell River for Breakfast with Ricahrd B and the gang. To CYPK north Shore route Sechelt (NOTAM closed) to Powell River. Approach from East and over field north to south and left downwind to 27. Breakfast at the airport cafe outside and to the right.
Fly over PRTC for the Post Garage boys then home approach from North and turnaround for right downwind 19. Too high and one go-around. 100 hours in HXT!
Poker Run #3 to Squamish. On Departure with Terminal smelled smoke in the cockpit and immediatly radioed returning to Nanaimo with handheld. standard approach and no emergency declared. Parked airplane and took ferry back to our house via Marion. Drove Back to YXX for cars. Cause: Avionics Master failed causing power loss to GTN and radios/ TXPDR.
