First flight in the Cessna Corvallas, Super fast, up to rotation speed in seconds, first experence with SVT and speed brakes, needed to do a 360 to slow before entering the SFRA, over 200 before the mountian ridge from OKV. Great experence, great landing, lots of new stuff allat once.
Mx flight to drop Mike Stanbridge at FDK to pickup N1057R, incorrect rudder (too much right rudder)input on climbout of JYO took a little to figure out mistake, Snow on runway and taxi ways @ FDK, first time to fell the plane slide around. Took Cindy M., Good landings, G1000, GFC700, Hi Performance experence, "watch the turn coordnator and attitude indicator better.
MX Flight, turned a little more to the west than wanted, got disoriented for a little before finding rt15. Greaser landing @ JYO, "ALWAYS PREHEAT THE DIAMONDS"!
First IFR Flight in the system, Extreme Mountain wave, death switch (did not switch to localizer, did not intercept ILS, was on GPS mode) Took Elliot Danner to pickup his plane
Return trip VFR from picking up Elliot's plane, screwed up the radial off VOR when Buck Asked "what radial I was on" 180' off. Remember radials are going away from the VOR like spokes on a wheel. so if I was past the VOR flying out bound the radial would be close to my heading. Great tail wind. Unknown traffic @ 12 o' clock
Maintenance flight to pick up 242AV, Formation flight on the return to JYO with Conner, could not communicate as briefed, Very cool to see a plane fly next to you in same route.
Maintenance flight to take 797GA prop to East Coast Prop. Flew it with Brian Pollack right seat doing most of the flying (new hire instructor) made a landing @ Clearview to let him see what a small runway looked like. very impressed with his abilities, nice short field landing and T/O
DA40 Check out, steep turns, power on/power off stalls, emergency procedures, G1000 & KAP140 useage..... Landings, Balked landings... Approach speed 75kt, 10' flaps for normal landings, gentle flare, not a stall type of landing.. Short field 65kt full flaps.
First time flying with Mr. Hepp, was picky about taxiing with hands on the yoke, explained I normally would do that if it was a windy day... First time into KHWY, and at night.. Landed dropped him off and took plane to JYO, Landing lamp inop for landing (again) seems these things don't work very offen. Flat landing, very dark, wish the light was working.
Flight in the 20 to Zombeland, took Cindy M., little trouble starting the plane, need to remember to use the PRIME switch, not just the fuel pump. Poor radio comm outside ot MRB airspace. No reason to talk to them unless I need to be in there space.
Ferry flight to pickup Ray and Renter, drop off N5194Y for 100 hr., great flight, good landing, good comm. extra good because Ray was watching and I did not screw up ... overall really good.
Flight to ONA to pickup Buck and Elliot dropping his Grumman off for paint. Great weather to go over the big hill except the head wind. Flight Following, flew @ 6500while Buck and Elliot went @ 8500, over took them past EKN, pretty cool to have a visual of them while passing under. Cool airport with interesting terrian dampered approch, can't see the numbers (approch) untill about a 1 mile final. First self-serve fuel stop.
Return flight with Buck and Elliot, Inst Hood time, Keep the XTrack at 0.00, (G430, page one of NAV select menu, change display and chose XTK where ever you put the curser) Flight following, vectored into FAF by potomac, First time to shoot the ILS17 into JYO. small corrections @ 633' to make the runway.
First flight after getting cheked out in the DA40, took Zach to W45 for his first time, need to remember best entry to right pattern airports, because the TP is more for noise abaitment than terrian. Landed 22 which is a RP, should have stayed far right of the airport then made a left to enter the 45' to the downwind. Will need to stay close to the terrian on the right to accomplish that. Overall good flight, still working on the landing site picture, slight bounce on both landings. Not too inpressed with the performance of this airplane.
Picked up AV at culpeper after 100 hr inspection. Went around SFRA and came in Jasen. Need to study the 300xls manual some more to be able to extract all the info inside the box.
Return flight picking up Eliots plane, Flight following, Called Charleston approch on 123.45 and Buck (in Eliots plane)was so nice to respond and pretend to be a controller (2 times) Oops, good laugh...
MX Flight with Conor and Brian to pickup 437SP and 24616, TS to the west, requested a weather update from tower (great way to see how far it is away). On return to JYO had another plane 8.5 out stating straight in for 17 when I was on the 45, on down wind they were 4 out. Was a Centurion, when I asked their speed they replied 140, then I thought maybe a Centurion was a jet, stated I would cut a 360 and let them in, about 180 into it they said we have you in sight, your good to begin you base leg. Probably i little steep turns for the pattern, turned back to left and saw the Centurion go past. first thought was that guy is not talking to anyone. But it was the Centurion I had just not identified correct. Should have slowed more before 360 and not rushed in thinking it was a jet still behind me. Carried too much spped on landing and floated way to far.
First flight in the Skycatcher after checkout, Zach and myself went for a short flight from HEF, lots of fun, love the visibility, although approaches end high with the need to slip it in.
MX flight to pickup 40SE after its 100 hr, had to go once around the pattern and have the new prop retorqued. First flight in a Cessna 150 with Tarek from HEF. Man is that thing a dog and tight.
Grest flight to Bay Bridge with Cindy Manente, I love that area and that beachy airport, after t/o made a right turn over the bridge and then down around the lower part of island to check out Kentmore AP, next trip out here will include a lunch stop at kentmore.
MX flight to bring a carb 172 to JYO, first time flying this jewel, flight schools first airplane and you can tell, with CM, still fun to fly, wants to turn left though. Pretty good short field landing.
Trip to Kentmorr, turf strip with Tracy Tarring, Christy and Talli. Awesome broiled crab cakes @ Kentmorr crab house, great enviroment, Tiki bar, Hammocks, Sand beach, tether ball, marina all 2 blocks from the strip. Had to wait out thunder storms before our return flight, not the best soft field landing (good thing the field was not soft) overall excelent trip!!! A must do again location.
First Flight in the new baby bird, only 19.1 tach time... before first oil change. out to Cedar Meadows and back. 122.85mhz for Cedar Meadows as well as AD-ED practice area... Watch Out! Nice evening flight with CM.
