VOR 13 at SNS (including a landing), very sloppy ILS 10R at MRY (I swear that engine ran rougher way out over the ocean), ILS 32R at Moffet, cancel IFR and go home to PAO.
Dodged clouds for the first half of the flight, and almost had to turn back. Sophie and Max's first flight without a CFI on board. David Zensius sat right seat. Flew a practice GPS 24 approach at FUL, which turned out to be very useful since we landed 2 minutes before sunset in thick haze.
Tried to fly to Truckee with Sophie and Max, but the pass was socked in and snowing. After failing to find a way over or under the clouds, we turned around to go home. On the way back we decided to land at McClellan and rent a car to drive to Truckee instead.
Flew home from our weekend in San Diego on one of the windiest days I have ever experienced. We considered staying an extra day for fear of unbearable turbulence over the mountains. The turbulence ended up not being too horrible, but the headwinds dropped my 170 KTAS to 75 KTS groundspeed in level flight! Made for a heck of a landing at PAO in 18G26 winds, as well.
