G1000 and KAP-140 Training/Checkout, First visit to Potomac Airpark, Landed long, disapointed Kelly with my decision not to do a go around. WIll make sure to pick a land or go around spot in the future so the decision is more clear. Another good teaching moment.
Formation flight with 11 other aircraft, Navigate the Hudson Exclusion (transit area) in line with the other aircraft. Maintain designated speed and altitude so to stay in transit exclusion airspace and formation with other planes, Perform manditorty radio calls throughout the exclusion, Land @ tower controlled new airport.
took Scott & Cyndie sight seeing over Whitetail,Past MRB overSummit Point raceway, over Mt. Weathers and back to JYO, their first small plane experence, lots of snow still on grouind from large storm 12/18 great flight with nice landing
G1000 experence, learned to double check GPS programing, Came very close to DCFRZ, dirverted with ATC announcement of our track, fixed programming problem, (incorrect fix input) Great radio practice, ATC and flight following. on departure from W29 flew north over the bridge and up the bay. Nice flight
Flew over Marshall and found Mother and sisters house, flew West over linden VOR and then landed @ KFRR, Chase helped part of the flight holding straight and levev and on course. return flight to JYO stayed west of the ridge past KOKV and back over the ridge @ RT7. High appr. and long landing @ FRR, great landing at JYO. Great weather and flight.
X country to new airport with Zach & Chase, Neat airport and museum, cool approch, Airport surrounded by lots of higher terrian, followed the river into the area to make a perfect 45 for the downwind.
Sight seeing tour with Tracy Tarring, Travis and Teigan, Turns around a point at the Tarring residence for some pictures, Close to SFRA, used VOR DME off DCA to make sure not to bust the SFRA. South West to Damians house and MX track, photo op, more turns around a point (now I know why we practice these !!!) north over the ridge to KMRB, land and let the kids eat all the popcorn, T/O amd back into Leesburg via Harpers Ferry and Point of Rocks, Great flight for everone.... Hope I made some lasting impressions on the kids
New Plane check out, Diamond DA-20, EM proceedures, Normal landings, no flap landings, soft and short field, stalls, slow flight, general operation of Garmin 430, Found most difficult the difference in directional control on the T/O and Balked landings. BUck introduced me to the upwind entry for 17 when coming from the West, Had a Barron take the runway while I was on final, radio call to ask him the please T/O without delay got him moving (he had not seen me and had not heard my radion calls) Need to wok on more foot control. Will book time and stay in the pattern after the plane gets its 100hr.
Solo fligh in new plane, tower controlled AP, over flew FRR, did not have confidence to land new plane, @HEF landing and pattern went well. Feel OK to take passengers
Flying with kids to new AP. St Marys, great day, skies clear not a cloud in the sky. negiociate air space around sfra and Patuxent air space. after taking off 2W6 went north east twrds C Bay, turned back due to time. Both kids flew the plane like an autopilot (with a little help)
Night flight while the kids did CAP, took Cindy Manente along for her first flight in GA, she is hooked. Great flight over OKV and Summit Point, turns around a point made her a little sick. Night landing, a little bounce, still tring to get use to the low wing picture.
First sunrise seen from 3k feet, maintance flight with Mike Standbrige, great flight altought early. HGR closed while in and out But HEF And Potomac Active during landing @ HEF
Practice time in the DA20, First time for Zach to go in the low wing plane, Flared too low and had hard landing @ FRR did better @ JYO. Find I am flaring too late in the low wing and not having a chance to bleed off energy.
Maintance flight pickup aircraft, review log books, poor radio performance with tower @ HGR need to work on thinking before talking. great landing at JYO
C182 Intro, New airplance, G1000 and GFC700 refresh, Steep turns, slow flight, traffic pattern, no flap landing, short field landing & take off, constant speed prop operation.
Maintance Flight to OKV to pickup Arrow and return it to HEF, Very poor visibilty, First flight with Conor and just after he passed his CFI check ride.
Very poor visibility, all most IFR conditions, could not see the ground @4400 feet, Shortly after getting cleared into SFRA flew through heavy rain (over KHWY) Potomac radioed " Skyventures 20 looks like you just went through some weather how was it" reply was heavy rain but smooth ride. On approch to HEF lost GPS and w/o compass light flew south of field, tower was very helpful in getting me in and helping me find the field. Once on the ground Tstorms kept us grounded for the night.
Maintance flight back to JYO, within SFRA, followed outside RT15, once Potomac asked if I had the field I replied yes but did not, began turn in too early and found myself heading towards the blue water towers on the hill in Ashburn ** into the surface area Bravo, corrected without assistance and had a good approch and landing back @ home.
Maintance Flight to pickup Buck and Chris VanMeter @ HGR, Buck sat in the back on the way to JYO thought he was going to screem like a girl (self admitted control freek)
First time flying this plane, new to the school, flew it with a ferry permit due to a hole in the exhaust pipe, good Potomac experence, little fast approch and somewhat of a floater landing, landed long but made B2 turn off. Felt rushed due to landing traffic behind me, first call to tower they did not respond, was unsure if they knew I was where I was, Second call was necessary on a 4 mile final,
