We flew up to Cameron Park, where my did picked us up and to us to the campground where my parents and my sisters' family were staying on the American River.
Picked up Dad in Concord and joined the Fly Out Group for their full moon dinner in Santa Rosa. Circled our house in Benicia on the way up and did a short Bay Tour on the way back.
Flew to an FAA safety seminar on IFR departures from non-towered fields at San Carlos Flight Center. Did some air work over the mountains on the way there.
Phase check before the IR checkride. VOR/DME 28R MOD, hold WOWAR, hold ZELAT, ILS 28R MOD, unusual attitudes partial panel, VOR/DME 26 TCY, circle to land on 30.
Stopped in Provo for a couple days on our way to Yellowstone so Sophia could catch up with some old college friends. Stopped in Truckee to pick up a stroller we had left in a friend's car at the airport a month ago.
VOR 29 O69, broke off and landed VFR at DVO, where we dropped off Fritz, who flew his family home from San Diego in 4WR because his plane was grounded in Riverside. Then got a void clearance to SAC, ILS 02, canceled IFR on the missed and flew home VFR.
[IPC][Pilot Checkride] Instrument checkride passed! ILS 22L MHR, intercept the SAC 8 DME arc for GPS 02 SAC (final approach flown on autopilot), VOR 02 SAC partial panel, circle to land on 20. Unusual attitudes on the way home.
Poked a hole in the fog leaving PAO. My first solo IMC and IFR flight. Picked up Justin Sherrill, a young Flying Samaritans veteran, in Stockton and flew to MYF to pick up Jacob Gregerson.
Cleared customs in Tijuana and continued on to El Rosario (a small strip in the middle of nowhere unofficially known as MDDM), because the Flying Samaritans' usual strip in San Quintin was closed for repairs. Cruised slow in loose formation with other Samaritans.
Pilots landing at TRK reported moderate to severe turbulence over Squaw Valley VOR so we climbed to almost 13k' before proceeding on course. Smooth sailing the whole way home, but 50-60 knot headwinds.
Took off IFR for fog, but canceled immediately after takeoff. Then PAO was reporting OVC005 so we picked up an IFR clearance and flew the GPS 31 approach to just above minimums.
