First flight for Sonny. Made a low pass over Chandler Field. Spotted a tan Tri-Pacer and circled around. After landing at Nash Warren Chandler stopped by and introduced himself as the Tri-Pacer pilot. Also met Danny Shorts uncle and a girl named Joy Mast.
Flew to Osceola for the RC demo.Got to check out Lyle Percells newly updated Glassair (The Yellow Bird). Met Don Cully and he told meall about his O-235 equipped, clipped wing Champ and his C-90 equiped Kitfox. Met some nice R/C fellows.
Marty Hall showed up just as I returned from I75. We flew to PEA and had lunch at the Somkey Row. I counted six taildraggers in the pattern at PEA. A Luscomb, a Citabria, a Cub, an RV-8, a Cessna 140 and my Vagabond. WOW!
We left PEA and flew to Corydon (0E9). Landed to the west and had to shoo off several geese. Bennie was gasing up his Cub and gave us a tour of the shop. He was repainting some wings for a Christian Eagle. On the way home we made a low pass over a grass strip that is owned by a Dr. Wells that Marty knows. As we were climbing out we heard Dr. Wells in the pattern at PEA. Apparently he was getting tailwheel instruction in a Citabria there.
My landings were pretty good. I seemed to struggle with my takeoffs today. The Vag is a lot squirlier with two onboard.
Flew Gary Snider to Barron Field to pick up his C195. Neat place! There were seven airworthy C195s as well as several other projects and a beautiful Twin Beech.
ILS RWY5 @ DSM, ILS RWY36 @ IKV with published missed and hold @ TNU, VOR RWY14 @ TNU, NDB RWY34 @ PEA to a full stop for fuel, NDB RWY33 @ OXV and ILS RWY 31 @ DSM. Marty Hall safety pilot.
Checkout flight in Sparrow Aviation's C152 with David Jones. Flew Tommy Davis around the Conway and Greenbrier area. David Jones is a pilot for Dillards.
Flew to IKV to pick up a copy of the Commercial PTS. Met Mickey and she gave me a tour of some of thier rental A/C. Made a T/G at 76 and the flew over Saylorville and Big Creek.
